It's that time again, our annual sledging run at Sattelbauer is on the programme. A traditional event, you might say, and has been for more than 15 years. At 5.00 pm on the dot, the whole group meets up with all the family and tackles the one-hour winter hike up to the popular mountain inn. The walk is a point of honour, after all, we have ordered hearty ribs for dinner and with the fresh air and a bit of exercise, we are also hungry.
Once again, the hike goes by in a flash, as we haven't seen each other for a while and we use the route for a nice "chat", as we call it here.
When we arrive at the top, we receive our usual warm welcome from Leo Sr. A large table has already been prepared for us in the cosy restaurant. We are served with drinks in no time at all and it doesn't take long before a full "Reindl” (roasting pan) with deliciously fragrant ribs, potatoes and dumplings is placed in front of us at the table. Our two vegetarians are also catered for, so they don't have to go hungry. A large portion of tasty “Kasnockn” (cheese gnocchi) is ready for them.
After a few pleasant hours together with good food and lively conversation, we come to the absolute highlight of the evening. We sledge down into the valley at breakneck speed. After we've all collected our sledges from the toboggan shed, the most dedicated tobogganists among us get ready. One or two of them have already announced their tactics for a sporty descent into the valley over lunch. Let's see if he succeeds. Although the toboggan run is floodlit, I would still recommend a headlamp in the evening. For your own safety, I would also recommend a helmet - this was and still is standard, at least for our kids.
