Before you jump onto your sled, you should know the basic techniques to be safe. To brake properly on flat terrain, simply press both feet into the snow next to the skids. If it is steep, you should lean back and, in addition to normal braking, pull the toboggan up with your hands at the front so that you brake with the runners at the back. To steer, you must simply press your foot into the snow. The harder you press, the tighter you go around the bend. Now that you know the basic techniques, I have some useful tips on the right equipment. Wear high, sturdy snow boots and warm snow trousers. Always wear a ski helmet for safety reasons. Ideally, you should also use ski goggles. Why? You'll find at the latest when the skier in front of you brakes and the snow really splashes in your face.
Königslehen Toboggan Run in Radstadt
A toboggan run in a snowy winter forest is a very special highlight that is not to be missed on your winter holiday in Radstadt. That's why today I'm taking you on a family tobogganing trip on the Radstadt-Altenmarkt ski circuit. The 8-seater Königslehen cable car takes us comfortably to the top station at an altitude of 1,557 metres. After getting off the cable car, we are spoilt for choice: warm up in the Sportalm right next to the mountain station and fortify ourselves with a tasty soup, or would you rather go straight down the six-kilometre-long toboggan run, 727 metres up the valley? The kids' answer is clear. We have just enough time to say a quick "hello" to the Kinigl mascot and then we're off to the starting arch. The toboggan run has been freshly prepared after use during the day, the traffic light is green, so it’s time: "On your marks, get set and go!
On the route through the beautifully snow-covered winter forest, we can expect fast straight passages, relaxed sections for gliding and overtaking, as well as challenging bends where we have often landed in deep snow. Although the time together, the fresh mountain air and the fun are in the foreground, we can't deny ourselves a little race. And although mum is in the lead for a long time, dad just manages to win the race on the home stretch. Unfortunately, for the sake of family peace, I completely stalled. After about 25 minutes of tobogganing fun, our cheeks are visibly red and we are beaming because the race was so much fun. Luckily, we have a Ski amadé ski pass, because the conditions are simply unique and the kids are already back at the cable car and want to get back to the start as quickly as possible - or maybe to the hut for grilled sausages with chips? After tobogganing, you can warm up with a hot drink in the "Salettl" right next to the valley station before going home to bed to be fit for the next fantastic day in Radstadt in the Salzburger Sportwelt.
