„Sounds, tradition and shared joy“

The picturesque community of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee in the heart of SalzburgerLand is not only known for its breathtaking mountain scenery, but also for its lively customs and traditions. These values are lived and celebrated especially at Harvest Festival time, the 5th season of the year in SalzburgerLand. On 24th September 2023, two festivals await you on one day – the 75th anniversary of Altenmarkt’s designation as a market town and the “Musikanten.Roas” (roaming musicians).

I once scoured Salzburg dialect dictionaries and read up on the meaning of “Roas”: “Roas” simply stands for “journey”, and the Altenmarkt Musikanten.Roas earns its name in every respect. Particularly because the three music groups that are roaming Altenmarkt this year, i.e. moving from one inn to another, entertain locals and guests with traditional music and folk songs. Incidentally, they play “unplugged”, i.e. without electronic aids, just as it used to be.

The “Arzbergmusi” – the four young, entertaining musicians from neighbouring Filzmoos, the trio from the “Rossfeld Musi” and finally the “Duo rot/grün” with Philipp and Johannes from Salzburg promise a “great” atmosphere with their music. As different as these three groups are – they are the best guarantors for a rousing atmosphere – and all that with free admission!

On the same day, you can also look forward to the 75th anniversary of Altenmarkt’s designation as a market town. The Musikanten.Roas is accompanied by a great programme, including Holy Mass, a festive procession, and a ceremony of all traditional clubs, as well as the opening of a special exhibition on the topic of “Market Town Designation” in the local history museum.

These festivals of music and tradition are more than just events – they are experiences that touch the soul and celebrate the joy of cultural heritage. Will you be there too?
