My Autumn.Queen

When the resort of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee organised the big Autumn.Queen competition for the first time last year, I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea and wanted to create my very own personal queen.

Now, finally, 12 months later - in September this year - there was to be another Autumn.Queen competition under the motto "Dance into Autumn" - no wonder, as the first one was such a huge success. Now nothing could stop me: on every walk, many rounds of golf and excursions, I collected things to decorate my queen from what nature has to offer. Tender barks, ripe ears of corn, lichens and mosses in all colours and shapes, large ivy leaves and other colourful foliage, crooked and straight cones and berries straight out of a picture book.

With a whole basket full of natural treasures, I set off on 9th September to the market square in Altenmarkt where my "naked" chrysalis was already waiting for its queenly garb. There was a colourful hustle and bustle on the market square and a cheerful atmosphere that spurred the nature artists on to top performances.
I had already thought in advance about how to creatively design my treasures from nature so that they would become an autumn queen: The bark as a corsage, the ears of corn and a lot of blossoms formed the skirt... How regal she looked - my autumn.queen! Would she be one of the most beautiful in the country? That was to be decided later by a three-week independent online vote, during which the queens were put on display in front of the shops in Marktstrasse.

The three most beautiful ones will then be on display at the Tischlerei Eckart (Joinery) in Altenmarkt - but first they were loaded onto historic tractors that same evening and put on  display in a convoy through the centre of Altenmarkt. Many visitors, locals and guests stood at the roadside, applauding the beautiful autumn.queens - mine was enthroned in the middle. I watched her from the roadside and was very proud of her. Believe me.

You can find the three most beautiful queens in the country and photos of all the Autumn.Queens at altenmarkt-zauchensee.at.
