Fast track to the Snow Space Salzburg ski area

In just under an hour from the city of Salzburg to the slopes of Snow Space Salzburg ski area? And free of charge and climate-friendly? The "Ruck Zug" (fast track) deal has been making this possible since the start of the winter season 2022/23. With a valid Snow Space lift pass guests from the entire province of Salzburg can travel free of charge to and from St. Johann im Pongau.

So, on Saturday, a friend and I pack up our snowboard and skis and give it a try. We purchase a day lift pass online from the Snow Space ticket shop. Using our order number, we then purchase an event ticket on the Salzburg Transport website, which then serves as our public transport ticket

The adventure can begin! We start at 8.00 am sharp at the station Salzburg station, so that we can have a quick coffee before boarding the 08.12 train IC 898 towards Klagenfurt. With skis, snowboard and coffee in hand, we set off for platform 6, where our train is already waiting for to board.
Even before we entered the station, we were already discussing how best to stow our equipment, but as we board the train, it becomes clear that this is no problem at all. We get into the carriage, which is specially marked for bicycles, and meet the conductor by chance. He explains to us that there are special holders for skis and snowboards in all carriages. Once our equipment is safely stowed, we look for seats together on the train. Scheduled arrival at St. Johann im Pongau station: 09.02 am. That gives us 50 minutes for a nice chat and a quick look at the weather forecast.
When we arrive in St. Johann, the ski bus is already waiting. After a short ride and a quick glance at the clock, it becomes clear: it's true. At 09.14 hrs, after just under an hour's journey we get off the ski bus directly in front of the Alpendorf cable car. Now we quickly pick up our lift passes at the pick-up machine, stow our snow boots in the ski depot and then jump into the cable car and head up the mountain.

After many great downhill runs and a super day on the mountain, we finish off at the Gernkogelalm and enjoy our well-deserved Kaiserschmarrn (chopped pancake dish) and an Aperol Spritz - thanks to the "Fast Track", neither of us has to drive home (;
