Blueberries from the Gerzkopf: blue, bluer, my lips – everyone knows straightaway what I’ve been eating

Bilberries, blueberries, huckleberries, whortleberries – whatever, the main thing they are round, blue and tasty! What they’re called doesn’t make any difference to their great taste. And the best thing is, they can be found everywhere at this time of year.Proper blueberry fields can be found on the Gerzkopf mountain. Find is probably not the right word, as I don’t even have to look for them. They nearly jump out at me! Too bad, that I always realise when I see the blueberries, as we call them, that I should have brought a container with me for collecting them. But an emergency makes you innovative and as my drinking bottle is empty it can be used as a collection box. The bottle fills up relatively slowly with berries, as I can’t resist them and have to keep tasting them. My fingers are already quite blue and my lips look as if I’ve used a strange colour lipstick. But it doesn’t matter they simply taste so good. After a while I take a satisfied look at my drinking bottle filled up with blueberries.

The sinking sun reminds me that I should start to head home. As I arrive back home visitors come calling – and I have nothing at home. I peep into my fridge and ponder. Milk and yoghurt is about all there is looking back at me. A blueberry milk shake – that’s it! Home-made, fresh, full of vitamins and easily prepared – what more could you want? In no time at all my drink is ready. My guests are impressed and I’m no longer the only one with blue lips.  Maybe blue will be the new fashionable colour this summer - I wouldn’t mind.

Instructions

Mash the blueberries with a hand mixer. Then mix in the milk and the yoghurt – finished!

Sometimes the simplest things are the best – hope you enjoy it!
