There are moments when the world falls silent. Where only the soft crunching of skis underfoot and the muffled rustling of your own clothes set the pace. A ski tour is far more than just sport. It is an immersion in nature, a switch-off from everyday life and an experience for all the senses. And that's exactly what the tour to the Schilchegg in Flachauwinkl is all about - not about setting records, but about the here and now.
The ski tour to the Schilchegg starts in Flachauwinkl, taking a leisurely approach into the idyllic Marbachtal valley. From the very first step on the snow-covered path, you can feel the hectic pace of everyday life slowly falling away. After around 30 minutes, the actual ascent begins. Turn right up to the Ranstlalm (1,502 m). While it is usually shady and quite chilly down in the Marbach valley in winter, the sun comes out more and more as the altitude increases.
The trail to Schilchegg is not particularly difficult and therefore ideal for leisurely ski tourers. There are no extremely steep passages or massive technical challenges that could detract from your concentration on nature. Instead, there is time to consciously take in your surroundings. The snow muffles all sounds and the mountain world unfolds in all its splendour. At the Ranstlalm, the view opens up over the surrounding peaks. It's worth pausing here, unpacking your thermos flask and savouring the hot tea and the moment. Around 400 metres above the Ranstlalm, you reach the ridge that connects the Schilchegg with the neighbouring Benzeck.
After a final look over the ridge, you reach the gentle summit of the Schilchegg. At 2040 metres, the summit is not a giant, but that is precisely what makes it so accessible and charming. At the top, a sweeping view over the Radstädter Tauern awaits - a white, gently rolling mountain landscape bathed in a warm light from the sun.
This is no place to be in a hurry. Up here you can feel the vastness of nature, the power of the mountains and perhaps also a little gratitude for this moment.
After a long rest at the summit, it's time for the descent. The gentle slopes along the ascent route offer the perfect opportunity to glide through the snow in calm turns. Back in the valley, you are left with a warm feeling of satisfaction. It wasn't a tour to push boundaries or excel. It was a tour to be in the moment and experience nature.
The ski tour to the Schilchegg in Flachauwinkl is an experience for anyone who wants to feel nature and leave everyday life behind. It's not about the highest peaks or the most difficult descents. It's about the little wonders that winter has to offer: the glistening snow, the clear mountain air and the feeling of being in the middle of nature. And that's exactly what makes this tour so special.
By the way, for all those who don't want to embark on the ski touring adventure alone. You can also experience the tour with a guide, such as Christoph Mooslechner, and learn the right technique as well as experiencing nature. For this blog post, we were allowed to accompany Christoph up to the Schilchegg with the SalzburgerLand content team and we hope that we can give you an impression of the beauty of the Radstädter Tauern with these cool shots.
