Snow Festival – a winter event between the past and the future
It's that time of year again! The wintery Filzmoos valley shows off its sportiest side at the Snow Festival. Time-honoured tradition meets modern skiing trends. From freestyle to retro skiing, there's something for everyone.
Now the question is, what exactly is this Snow Festival?
This traditional event brings together a wide variety of participants, displaying skiing from days gone by to today. Accompanied by music, all groups showcase their rhythm, technique, and, above all, their dedication. The coordination and formations that the groups display to enthusiastic spectators require many hours of rehearsal, collaboration, and, above all, training. Not only does the training take a lot of effort, but organizing such an event also demands a lot from everyone involved. But the Filzmoos Tourist Office masters this task well. Feel free to contact them if you have any more questions about this journey through time!
Spectacular displays from every era
As already mentioned, the festival in the snow brings together the past and the present. Nostalgic skiers, equipped with wooden skis and matching period clothing, ski just as the first skiers did many decades ago. Demo teams illuminate not only the slopes with their rhythmic formations and lights, but also the beaming faces of the spectators. Of course, the next generation also shows off their skills, for example, the children of the Filzmoos Ski Club with their flag parade.
The freestylers amaze spectators with their tricks in the air, flying over the jumps. The mascots Bärtl and Schörgi are an integral part of the snow festival, bringing smiles to the faces of the youngest visitors. But last but certainly not least, the snow groomers bring the house down when they end the evening snow show with their “Snow Groomers’ Dance.”
Where and when does the Snow Festival take place?
Every Tuesday from 8:00 p.m. between February 3rd and 24th 2026, the Snow Festival takes place at the valley station of the Papageno gondola lift. So, pencil these dates in your calendar right away to make sure you don't miss any of the shows. Wrap up warm, pack your camera, and join us every Tuesday evening in February as Filzmoos shows just how lively winter sports can be. And if you want to try your luck, why not take part in the raffle?
