Safe skiing can be so easy

The FIS safety rules

The slopes in Zauchensee and Flachauwinkl are in perfect condition from December to Easter! Not least thanks to the high altitude and our great piste care team, you can enjoy easy descents and deep snow slopes, ski movie race courses and the 12 Peaks Trophy as a challenge for professionals or connoisseurs right through to spring.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T: Pros on the piste

❌ No winter sports enthusiasts want to have accidents.
❌ Nobody wants to be slowed down by others.
❌ No ski or snowboard fan owns the slopes alone.

That's why there are a few simple basic rules that benefit everyone and don't restrict anyone.
The basics of good manners on the ski piste, so to speak:

- All winter sports enthusiasts have the same right to ski or snowboard on the same slopes as you. Whether big or small, beginner or pro, individual skier or group.
- Look up and look down: Pay attention to other winter sports enthusiasts before you set off, brake, enter a piste or change lanes.
- The following applies at piste and lift track crossings: slow down or be ready to brake, only cross quickly but safely after looking left-right and preferably keep to the very edge of the piste.
- You help winter sports enthusiasts who have fallen or are unsafe. We are all unsettled when we fall, get separated from our group or are faced with a steep descent. And we all appreciate an ‘Are you OK?’ from someone who won't leave us standing or lying alone.
- Piste closures have a purpose. Our task and mission is to guarantee you safe and perfect pistes. If you don't respect the barriers, we unfortunately can't guarantee your skiing fun.
- Don't overestimate yourself and your equipment. Even if you are in the flow and trust your skis, you must be able to slow down at any time.

Tip: If you want to test your skills safely, you can put them to the test on two Skimovie race courses in Zauchensee-Flachauwinkl. On the Gamskogel you can compete in the parallel slalom and show off your talent in the giant slalom on the Kogelalm. Timekeeping and video evidence included!

Here you can find an overview of all FIS piste rules.

In more serious cases, you secure the casualties, provide emotional support or first aid for injuries and notify the emergency services - the free emergency numbers on EVERY mobile phone are:

112 - Euro emergency number
140 - Mountain Rescue Austria
144 - Austrian Rescue Service
