Griessenkar Adventure Mountain: mountain air, far-reaching views & pure hiking pleasure

Fancy a real mountain experience, fresh mountain air and views that take your breath away (in the best sense of the word)? Then head to the Griessenkar adventure mountain in Flachau! Between lush alpine pastures, striking peaks and relaxing refreshment stops, the perfect mix of being active, enjoying nature and adventure awaits you here.

Let me tell you: The Griessenkar is one of my absolute favourite mountains - and not without reason. There really is a lot to discover on Flachau's local mountain - from leisurely hiking routes to summit conquests and challenging panoramic tours to little adventures for young and old. When my daughter was little, Flori's adventure trail was one of our favourite excursion destinations. A lovingly and varied themed trail with fun, games and lots of nature to touch - perfect for families with a thirst for discovery.

So, here are my tour suggestions on the Griessenkar:

Circular hike with summit experience:

From the Starjet 2 mountain station, first follow the forest road and then change to an idyllic hiking trail. Shortly before the ascent to the summit, which requires some surefootedness, an impressive view of Flachau opens up. Once at the top, you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic view, sign the summit book and capture the experience with a summit photo. The descent is via the Saukarriedl to the Griessenkaralmen and back to the Starjet 2 mountain station. The tour is approx. 5 km long and covers approx. 300 metres in altitude.

Salzburger Summit Game - high-altitude hike to the Saukarfunktel:

From the summit of the Griessenkar, the ridge path leads to the 2,028 m high Saukarfunktel, one of the seven peaks of the Salzburger Summit Game. Continue to the Frauenalm and via a path back to the Griessenkaralmen and the Starjet 2 mountain station. You need to plan approx. 10 km and 530 metres in altitude for this challenging tour, which corresponds to a walking time of approx. 4.5 hours.

Descent via the Saukaralmen to Flachau:

After the ascent to Griessenkar, follow trail 45A and later trail no. 45 down to the Saukaralmen as far as the Hundsdorfhütte (not serviced). From there you continue on route 43 into the valley to Flachau. This tour covers around 12.5 km, with an ascent of around 350 metres in altitude and a descent of around 1,160 metres. Allow around 4.5 hours for this.

Flori's adventure trail - fun for the whole family:

This family-friendly themed trail on the Griessenkar is suitable for pushchairs and offers numerous play and puzzle stations. You can explore this circular trail in 1.5 to 2 hours. You can obtain the accompanying puzzle booklet and a pencil free of charge from the Waldgasthof, the cable car stations or the Tourist Office. A small reward awaits the children after successfully solving the puzzle.

Sunrise tour on the Griessenkar:

In the summer months of July and August, you have the opportunity to take part in an organised sunrise hike on Wednesdays. An unforgettable experience that you should definitely capture on camera. You can book this tour online via https://www.flachau.com/en/experiences/.
