Explore the small town of St. Johann on a cosy horse-drawn carriage ride and be enchanted by the wintery, Christmassy town. Every Friday and Saturday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the LightAdvent.

A new highlight: handmade masterpieces - the St. Johann nativity scene in Salzburg

'This year's Advent of Light in St. Johann will be enriched by a very special work of art - the enchanting nativity scene, designed by Josef Krabb and Gottfried Steinert. The nativity scene, 1.80 metres wide, 1.47 metres high, 1.40 metres deep and 0.80 metres high, is not only impressive, but also full of loving details. The figures, between 10 and 12 cm tall, represent the diversity of the associations in St. Johann. The new nativity scene shows St. Johann in its historical splendour around 1850, immersing you in a bygone era that impressively demonstrates the sense of community and folk culture in St. Johann at a time when the most famous Christmas carol, "Silent Night", was written.

The background painting by Heinz Tischer and the support of the carpentry workshop of the building yard of the municipality of St. Johann put the finishing touches to the project. After around 6 months and an estimated 800 hours of work, the nativity scene is the shining result of collective commitment. Gottfried Steinert, chairman of the nativity scene building association, is proud of this successful masterpiece, which celebrates the craftsmanship and community spirit of St. Johann in Salzburg.
