A backcountry ski tour with mum “Mum, when can I go on a ski tour with you?“

As is so often the case, the "younger ones" also want to try out things that are really fun for the "older ones"! So, we decide to give it a try: But before we start our tour, I sort out functional clothing with my children. True to the motto of the "onion principle", we put together our outfit. Just as when hiking in summer, we make sure that we change after the ski tour and before the descent and wrap up warmly so that we don't catch cold. Before the first ski tour with children, it is of course also important that your children can ski well and are in good physical shape so that the downhill run is also a pleasure.

So, now we’re ready to get going:I’ve chosen an easy tour from here:

Today we’re heading up to the Schwaigalm in Filzmoos.

You can rent equipment from Sport Stefan in Filzmoos (children’s boots from size 37).

Starting point of the tour is the valley station of the NEW sixpack Mooslehen chairlift in Filzmoos. From there you walk about 100m to the Schwaighof farm, where you can start the tour on the prepared forest track.Put on your skins, have a warm sip of tea, put on your sunglasses and off you go through the wintry forest towards the Schwaigalm. The forest path leads up a slight incline for about 1 hour (very leisurely, including a banana break :) through the forest to the piste junction – a quick look up to check for skiers and quickly cross to the other side!

As my children's mouths are already watering - the Kaiserschmarrn has been tempting them for some time now - we decide on the short and more demanding ascent via the shortcut! This is where the kids benefit from the experience they have gained with the skins and their improved sense of balance! Finally, smiling faces again as the roof of the Schwaigalm hut peeks out from behind the hill! Mobilise the last of your energy and make the final sprint with a smiling face.
Take off your skis and secure a nice sunny spot on the panoramic terrace - vitamin D is healthy for everyone, as we all know! The hut is ideal for a refreshment stop with children. There is a small but nice playground in front of the hut, and behind the hut, good-humoured goats are waiting for a few strokes. With a hot chocolate and a delicious Kaiserschmarrn (chopped pancake dish), you can enjoy the fantastic mountain panorama twice as much. Fuelled with new energy, we now get to whizz down the sunny slope on the piste! Grateful for this fantastically beautiful day, we leave the snowy paradise of Filzmoos, but we will definitely be back again soon - maybe next time on a snowshoe hike!
